Happy Sunshine Gang Volume Fourteen

Sorry... But We Are Changing!
Letter From the Editor
The Happy Sunshine Gang has realized that it needs to change. The readers, writers, and editors have all been fed up with the lack of quality and cooperation amongst the HSG staff and in the articles published by them. Instead of having a main theme this week, I would personally like to take some time to apologize to you, the readers of the Happy Sunshine Gang, for everything that has been happening. The editors and writers have all been very busy, and haven’t been able to write in time for the Happy Sunshine Gang. We have realized that due to this, we need to prepare for busy times like this when people may not be able to write.
What do we do? Is there a Happy Sunshine Gang? If so, what goes in it? Is there an HSG ready to go that just needs a new date and number? If not, how do we cover for specific sections? We have been sitting down and writing out plans for when we are unable to write so that these questions are answered.
After actually reading the last Happy Sunshine Gang, I realized several things. First of all, I realized that it was actually pretty cool that a little joke that poked fun at a waste-of-time presentation on gangs turned into this. Secondly, I realized that it is pathetic that there is absolutely no proof reading. To be honest, I don’t look over my own writing or over writing of other people until late at night some time when I am just bored and have nothing else to do. It’s not acceptable, and hopefully will not happen again.
We have begun to analyze problems with how we work, and we have already begun to figure out how to prevent these problems from happening again in the future. For example, we are working on writing an official style guide (we may use the royal we) for the Happy Sunshine Gang. This way we can limit most formatting issues. We are also going to try our best to finish early on in the week so that we can sit down and find more issues with formatting and content.
The section that will be changing perhaps the most is the Opinion section. To my knowledge, we have only had two works featured in the Opinion section, and it has been a part of the Happy Sunshine Gang since HSG no. 2 (March 22nd, 2013). After reading this, it doesn’t take one very long to come to the conclusion that our readers simply don’t want to participate in the Opinion section. This is completely fine. Instead of having it completely written by... *shudder* outsiders... *shudder*... it’ll be primarily written by our staff. You may still submit your works to us to be published.
I personally must take a bit of time before concluding this long-winded letter to tell you how sorry the whole HSG staff is for the lack in quality, particularly for the last issue. It definitely wasn’t up to our standards, and we are apologizing to you for scrambling around to get it out at the sake of quality. We hope that this won’t happen again.

Serial
Since we have been notified by several individuals that the serials typically don’t make sense if you miss one of them, we’ve decided to put all of the parts together at the end of the month. We aren’t sure if we’ll include it with the HSG or as a separate item available on request. The serial, like other sections of the HSG, will be on a bit of a standstill while a new one is written so that we may ensure thee bast kwalitee.

Word Puzzle of the Week
The ‘Word Puzzle of the Week’ (That’s what we’re going with for now) is really quite simple. You sit down and count how many words you can make from a given phrase without using the words that are part of the phrase itself (ex: If the puzzle is ‘Fun Puzzle’, you can make ‘Fez’, but not ‘Fun’ or ‘Puzzle’). If you have beaten the given count, you may bring in your list of words with the corresponding puzzle to receive some sort of prize. It may be emailed or given to your local HSG representative.

Creativity Corner
Come on, guys. We have had very few submissions. Don’t you want your work published? While we will still offer opportunities for... outsiders (*shudder*), we may have to do away with the Creativity Corner if it continues to be underused.

Stereotyping States
Who knows? Our writers thought that this section would be fun. So, without any further explanation...

Georgia
Georgia is an awful, awful state. Georgians tend to be overly religious, and drive out anyone who doesn’t agree with their view of the world. The state is full of blond moms and their perky, evil cheerleader daughters. Also a staple are big, muscular quarterbacks with nothing at all in the way of brains.

33 Haikus About Poetry
I wrote 33 haikus about poetry last year for poetry warmup exercises. Enjoy!

Here, Take This Lovely Cupcake
Here is something I have never heard of. A newspaper shutting down for two weeks in a row? I mean, come on guys. We’re not the federal government, there isn’t any budget problem (Ha! Who am I kidding, we have no budget) and there certainly isn’t some raging inner political conflict going on here, regardless of the rumors I have heard (Note from the editor: There may or may not have actually been an inner raging conflict in addition to a pathetic columnist that slowed this issue down).
Although I know that this has already occurred, I would loyke to apolagise fer da kwality arrers that have bin in the layst fue issyews. Yes, that last section was supposed to be a joke. We will be back as soon as we possibly can, but in the meantime, please enjoy this free cupcake.

Thoughts for the Independent Mind
Guess what?
Our writer for this column was pathetic.. again. There have been people inquiring about potential positions at the HSG, and this position is likely to be up for grabs if this happens one more time. This was one of the reasons why the HSG was at a standstill for most of last month. We have a writer to take over this column if this happens again, so please don’t inquire about taking this column. We can know for sure that while they’re busy, they are trustworthy, reliable, and can put out quality writing, just as the normal writer of this column used to. While they’re still trustworthy, we’ve realized it may be time to put an end to the constant waiting around for this person. The person who would replace this position is the same one who authors our new puzzle.

Why I’m Starting to Lose Faith in Humanity, Internet Edition
I’ve heard the internet being described as many things: the entire world at your fingertips, the window to all the information you could hope for, and answers at the click of a mouse. We know how much the internet has benefitted us (even if it is looking up videos about cats fighting with lightsabers), and continue to use it to stalk fandoms, catch up on TV shows, and get fast answers from Yahoo.com. And sometimes, it’s there for us to ridicule the stupidity of humanity.
Below is a list of some of the most outrageous and hideously unintelligent quotes I’ve found on various websites. Take the time to revisit your inner “’Murica” and raise your Big Gulps high as you read some of the internet’s dumbest comments. (Note: grammatical errors have not been corrected.)
  • “[What] is Obama’s last name? Does anyone know?”
  • “Someone just tried to convince me that the sun is a star. #GetYoFactsStraight”
  • “im enroling in coledge as I type”
  • “Me and my friend are having an argument, she says that it rains in Australia but it can’t can it because obviously the rain falls to the top of the world but at the bottom of the world it wouldn’t fall to earth it would fall into space”
  • “This elevator is so stupid it has a button for the floor that I’m already on”
  • “i think the titanic is a fake because , how do they record it when they are like all dieing in the water ?”
  • “is adolph hitler the same person as hitler?
  • “what kills you makes you stronger <3”
  • “I hate it when people mix up “your” and “you’re”. I think there all idiots… ;P”

Review Corner
Music Musings: Work Tracks I
Hello, and welcome to the first edition of Music Musings! This function of the Review Corner will be used for reviews on music by any HSG member at any time. Warning: This column is cheesy; get the crackers. While it may come across to the reader that as we write this column we assume infinite wisdom of the music world, we don’t. All of the current staff of the HSG are; however, involved in music.

Beginnings By The Allman Brothers Band (1973)

This album is very great for those who even remotely enjoy blues, rock (not metal or alternate), or southern rock in particular (ex: Lynyrd Skynyrd). These tracks are very good, and make fairly good background music. It’s particularly good to listen to while working because you don’t necessarily have to listen to the lyrics, and it’s not very distracting. While it’s not for everyone, and isn’t necessarily anyone’s favorite group, it is just one of those groups that serves as a happy medium.
According to Wikipedia, the Allman Brothers Band was at the forefront of Southern Rock and has been active fairly consistently from 1969 to the present (“The Allman Brothers Band”).
